A useful footwear specification describes the shoe you want to receive, not just its appearance. It helps a manufacturer assess feasibility, prepare a comparable quotation and identify which details need sample approval.
Use the checklist below for an initial enquiry. It is a buying brief, not a test certificate or a substitute for product-specific requirements.
Describe the product and intended use
State whether you need formal, casual, sports, school or protective footwear. Include a style reference and explain the intended customer or use. For leather footwear, specify whether your material requirement applies to the upper, lining, sole or several components.
For protective footwear, provide the exact buyer specification and ask for evidence applicable to the proposed model. Do not infer protection from its appearance or a generic company certificate.
Copy this enquiry checklist
| Field | What to provide |
|---|---|
| Business | Company or shop name and contact person |
| Product | Style reference, intended use and customer |
| Upper | Material, finish and colour requirements |
| Inside the shoe | Lining, footbed and fit requirements |
| Sole | Material, construction preference and required performance |
| Size run | Size system and pairs per size, per style and colour |
| Branding | Your authorized artwork and logo placement |
| Packaging | Box, label and carton requirements |
| Samples | Required sizes, approval contact and requested changes |
| Delivery | City or PIN code and required date |
If a field is undecided, say so. “Please propose options” is more useful than leaving the manufacturer to assume a material that changes the price or construction.
Separate essential requirements from preferences
Identify which materials, colours and measurements are mandatory. List the details where an alternative can be proposed. This helps avoid a quotation that appears cheaper only because it silently changes the specification.
Agree how deviations will be approved. If a component becomes unavailable, a written approval trail is more reliable than assuming a visually similar replacement is acceptable.
Keep sample approval measurable
Label the approved sample and record its specification. Note any corrections before approval and confirm whether the manufacturer will produce another sample or incorporate the agreed change into the next stage. Retain a reference pair where practical.
Ask how bulk inspection will be arranged and how the quantity and size breakdown will appear on the packing list. Confirm commercial terms separately from the technical specification.
