A private-label shoe order needs more than a logo. Before asking a manufacturer for a rate, define the product, size run, packaging and order quantity. Those choices determine whether the factory can quote an existing style or needs to develop a new sample.
This guide is for Indian footwear brands, retailers developing a house label and distributors planning branded collections. DBFootwear accepts private-label manufacturing enquiries from its Agra factory.
Existing style or new development?
An existing style with agreed branding can use a different production process from a completely new design. Ask what can remain unchanged and what needs a new pattern, component or tool. Do not assume that changing the upper, sole shape and size range is simply a packaging change.
Send a reference to communicate the intended appearance, then describe the functional requirements in words. Use your own branding or artwork you have permission to use.
Prepare the manufacturing brief
Include these details in your enquiry:
- Customer and use: office, casual wear, school or another specific use.
- Product type and reference style.
- Upper, lining, footbed and sole requirements.
- Colours and pairs required in each size.
- Logo placement, packaging and labels.
- Delivery city, intended launch date and sample needs.
Mark which details are fixed and which can be discussed. A factory can propose an alternative material more usefully when it knows the intended use and the buyer’s priorities. Our specification checklist provides a format to copy.
Compare quotations on the same scope
Compare the quoted materials, quantity, size mix and packaging before comparing the per-pair rate. Request separate clarification of sample charges, development or tooling, transport and any items excluded from the quotation. Agree payment terms and the inspection process in writing.
There is no universal private-label MOQ. A minimum shown for a catalogue product does not establish the minimum for a new construction or custom component.
Approve a sample before committing to bulk
Review appearance, fit, finish, materials and logo placement. Record the size and specification of the approved pair, retain a reference sample and list any agreed corrections. Confirm whether packaging is part of that approval or will be checked separately.
Avoid starting production on an ambiguous instruction such as “same as the photo.” The approved sample and written specification should explain what the bulk order must match.
Plan your second order before the first ships
Ask how a repeat order will be identified, whether material availability may change, and what lead-time and quantity conditions apply. Keep the approved specification and sample references together. Record your actual sales by size before choosing a replenishment size run.
